Cancer Survivors Stories
Breast Cancer Survivor: "There is hope." My journey with breast cancer expands from 2016 to present. As one of the many survivors, we stand together triumphant, walking in the knowledge that endurance comes through faith, determination and the will of God.
Esophageal Cancer Survivor: "Early detection saved me." In June 2012, I was experiencing difficulty swallowing which I attributed to a number of things; perhaps, I was not chewing my food properly; acid reflux, even my tonsils were affected. As the problem persisted, I decided to go to the doctor, with nudge from my daughter, after I struggled to eat Father’s Day lunch with family.
Breast Cancer Survivor: "If you feel something, do something." As with many cancer patients, financial obstacles presented a challenge for Sandra Alleyne, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sandra is a hair stylist and it was difficult to perform her work during the months following the surgery.
Kidney Cancer Survivor: "Don't diagnose yourself when you experience pain." When Angela Trotman was diagnosed with kidney cancer, “The news took me by surprise and was devastating, having lost my husband to colon cancer,” she said. She was also worried about how extensive the cancer was in her kidney and about the treatment following the surgery.
