BACA Scholarship Program 2019
The purpose of the BACA Scholarship Awards is to provide financial assistance for Barbadian undergraduate students from the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) and in Barbados. Applications are open to students pursuing careers in the health sciences.
Scholarship Award for:
1st Place $2,500.00
2nd Place $1,500.00
3rd Place $1,000.00
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be Barbadian by birth or heritage (at least one parent or grandparent) and must provide proof of same (birth certificate).
- Must be a citizen or permanent resident residing in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Barbados.
- Must have been accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited vocational program, two (2) year college or four (4) year college or university undergraduate program in the USA or Barbados for the 2019-2020 academic year, with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, or a B average.
- Participation in BACA activities for the year following the award is encouraged.
- Previous BACA scholarship awardees are not eligible to apply.
Application Requirements
- A typed or legibly written completed application form.
- Proof of acceptance or enrollment for the fall semester.
- Essay Questions (see page 4).
- An official copy of your most recent transcript from your current school.
- Two letters of recommendation – one from a teacher and the other from a professional (e.g. pastor or physician) who knows you well. Family members not eligible.
- The total award is divided evenly to cover the fall and spring semesters. The second allocation of the award is based on proof of enrollment in the spring semester.
Applicants will be notified by August 30, 2019. An interview in person, by telephone or via Skype or other video format is required for finalists.
